Ageing Well

Svenska pensionärsförbundet (The Swedish Pensioners’ Association in Finland) works to create a good, safe, and enjoyable life for you as a senior. Together with our 71 local associations, we build active communities where no one is left alone. No chain is stronger than its weakest link.

Welcome to
Svenska pensionärsförbundet

Svenska pensionärsförbundet (The Swedish Pensioners’ Association in Finland) is a non-profit, non-partisan, and non-religious organisation. According to its statutes, the association’s overarching tasks are to:

  • Represent pensioners at all levels of society, safeguard their rights, and strengthen their influence
  • Work to ensure that pensioners’ experiences and knowledge are taken into account in society
  • Create increasing opportunities for pensioners’ community, security, and well-being

With around 20,000 members, Svenska pensionärsförbundet is one of the largest civic organisations in the Swedish-speaking parts of Finland.

You can become a member in one of our 71 local branches in Swedish-speaking Finland, on language islands, and the Åland islands.

The Association as an Advocate

Svenska pensionärsförbundet safeguards the rights of Swedish-speaking seniors and works to strengthen their influence. Our advocacy is directed at decision-makers, authorities, members of elderly councils, and Swedish-speaking seniors in Finland. As a pensioners’ organisation, we defend the rights of the elderly to use the Swedish language in Finland.

Together with five Finnish pensioners’ organisations, we form EETU (the Pensioners’ Interest Organisation in Finland), which, with the strength of more than 200,000 members, carries out joint initiatives towards parliament and government.

Advocacy is one of the cornerstones of the association’s activities. To do this effectively, we need the support of a broad membership base in the local branches. By joining on of our local associations, you contribute to the collective voice needed to make pensioners heard in societal decision-making. The more we are, the stronger our demands become.

Quality of Life

For the individual member, the most important aspect is of course the fellowship within their own local branch—its gatherings and activities. The contact with friends, both new and old.
